Canine Cataracts

Question:
I have a 10 year old dog with diabetes who is developing cataracts. I know what is causing it, the diabetes, but has anyone ever dealt with this before. Is there anything to stop it? To reverse it? I know surgery is an option. Anyone ever been through that? Any drugs on the market? I been to my vet, but am always interested in other opinions. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Answer:
Unfortunately diabetic cataracts are a pretty common sequelae to diabetes mellitus. As far as I know, there aren't any medical treatments. The cataracts can be removed, but that gets pretty spendy. You might want to speak to a veterinary ophthalmologist about your options.
