Question:
I have cataracts at stage 2.5-3 and it is really starting to get to me. I
have lost almost all of my fine vision and need stronger and stronger
bifocals everyday. They have even taken to putting bifocals in contacts for
better vision for me. I am near sighted in one eye, far sighted in the
other, but don't require corrective lenses (although they help at night) The
problem is they don't want to remove them because the doctor said I would be
risking my vision. I have macular ishemia in my right eye and no central
vision. Technically my vision is 20/400 in that eye, but I do have great
peripheral vision. My vision in the left eye is 20/25, no problem. He
stated that if they remove the cataracts my vision could become worse, and
replacement lenses are crap. Can you have the cataracts removed with
replacing the lens? How have any of you who have had it done compare it to
before?
Answer:
My grandmother had diabetes and cataracts and the operation helped her
vision a lot. My friend has macular degeneration and cataracts and the
cataract operation made very little difference for him. Get another opinion
or two then decide for yourself if what they say makes sense.
