Question:
I was told I need bilateral cataract surgery, which I have scheduled
for next week for one of my eyes. This is a good thing, right? Are
there any down sides? Will I be able to drive 400 miles a few days
later? (Actually seeing the road at night will be a different
experience for me, and I'm sure a pleasant one for a change for the
other drivers on the road...).
Secondly, I have Stedman's spell-check for WP5.1, which I understand
is no longer supported by Stedman's. My dictionary is full; does
anyone have any simple 1-2-3 instructions about how to empty some of
it out?
Answer:
The file is in c:\wp51 (unless you moved it or Stedman's did) and is named
WP[WP}us.sup
If Judity does not answer you about the cataract surgery, drop her an email.
She just had both eyes done in a relatively short span of time and seems
delighted with the results.
If you have any further questions about the dictionary, email me. I don't use
Stedman's but I might be able to figure out what you need to do .
Most of your questions are answered by this NIH site:

Cataract: What you should know
Cataract surgery does slightly increase the risk of a detached
retina.
I've had cataract surgery on both eyes, and a detached retina
operation on the left eye.
