Question:
I just had cataract surgery 4 days ago with Interocular Lens implant which
corrected vision in my left eye. It was a +7 or so, and now is close to
20/20. My right eye is also about a +7 so I use a contact lense in it to
get rid of the double vision problem until I can get it fixed as it also has
a cataract getting started.
Problem is this - When watching Television (Not close up on computer screens
or any other vision experiences), I see two very close images, I call it
parallax (don't know if this is the correct word.) If I look at a small
light a few feet away (like a small led on some equipment) I see two lights
side by side but very close. Another example would be a car headlight or a
traffic light about 150 feet or so or further away, two very close side by
side. This does not affect driving but it is a little irritating. All of
this is with the operated (left eye.) When I place a contact (disposable)
in my right eye, I also get the same effect. If I remove the contact lense
and view through glasses with the right eye, I don't see the same parallax.
Question is this - Is this something normal during the healing process, or
will the brain eventually take care of this as brains are apt to do over
time?
Answer:
Do you mean that you have double vision with one image coming from each eye,
or double vision in a single eye?
A partial cataract that breaks the visual field into two "windows" can cause
double vision in a single eye.
I have had cataract surgery, and in my operated eye, I only get double vision
when the pupil is dilated. When the pupil is very large it seems some light can
pass around the edge of the IOL giving a second image.
