cataract surgery after lasik

Question:
Would someone in the group please explain what are the implications of needing cataract surgery following lasik?

Answer:
cataract surgery is more risky with post RS patients due to the modified corneal shape. THe curvature of the eye is altered and will affect IOL calculations. I have several patients that have had issue with surgery post RS, but the outcomes have still been pretty good.

The major issue is that not many Lasik patients have had to have cataract surgery yet and it is still something that surgeons are getting to grips with. In the next few years we will start to see a lot of papers about this topic and get much new input into the specific problems.

For what it is worth, you should have little problem in a few years time as this will be a pretty standard issue the surgeons deal with.

The issue with pre-op script is to do with IOL calculation and all available info will help the surgeon.
