Question:
Six months ago, at the age of 46, I was diagnosed with cataracts by my
optometrist. My vision has since deteriorated to the point where I'm beginning
to think seriously about surgery. I'm rather nervous about the surgery, in
particular, the small but very real risks associated with complications from
eye surgery.
Does anyone out there have a recommendation for a cataract surgeon in the
Tampa Bay, Florida area (preferably one who uses topical anesthesia). Any
general advice in selecting a surgeon or coping with cataracts and cataract
surgery would also be very much appreciated.
Answer:
Having had experience with family members dealing with cataract, it would
appear advisable to consider surgery only at the time when vision is
compromised to the point where it interferes with normal activity. The
possibility of serious complications is very real. Additional opinions may be
appropriate
