Question:
Is there a way to deal with feeling depressed during a WAR?
Answer:
Walking down a Marin County trail, and seeing 10,000 white Douglas Iris
dotting the hillsides, offers me hope and brings me joy.
This is a really glorious year for wildflowers, from Pt Reyes, down to
Sweeney Ridge, from Chimney Rock to Angel Island. Filaree dot the
hillsides, hound's tongue abound, and all colors of the rainbow are found
in the Douglas Iris. The Calypso Orchids are at their height right now, to
be found under Douglas Fir, on the Matt Davis/Coastal Trail on Mt Tam.
Cat's Ears abound at Chimney Rock, where the Elephant Seals rest on the
beach, and the first of north-bound whales swim right off-shore. And, the
waterfalls of Cataract Trail and Steep Ravine plunge down through
beautiful Redwood filled canyons. Seeing a Red Larskpur growing from a
solid rock, watching the small lupine grow day by day, and seeing the end
of the cycle, with the petals of the Shooting Star strewn across the
ground, Monkey Flower that's as orange as orange can be, golden Poppies,
Buttercups, and the most beautiful of all - Mission Bells - soothe even
the most avid of Bush-haters.
