Question:
1. Any thoughts or suggestions about the problem with steroid drops?
2. Does anyone know of a compassionate opthomologist near
Philadelphia, who is willing to experiment with an unusual problem?
Answer:
Would that be oral steroids or the drops. She needs to let the eye man
know her concerns and try something else. There is another eye drop
besides Predforte called Lotemax which is steroidal but much less
intense. It is for steroid responder people. Not sure what her reaction
to steroid drops is but often it causes the pressure to rise [like
glaucoma]. The Lotemax works well for me. It also does not burn. There
are a few drops out there that burn. Be sure to ask the doctor if the
drop he is suggesting has a burning quality. I have a list like Acular,
Vexol, Trusopt which I use with lotemax or predforte. I can still use
predforte in my left eye but not in my right eye anymore because it
causes the response. One of those is a pressure lowering drop but can't
remember which without getting up and climbing the stairs to look.
The drop that burns the most is not in this list. Sorry, can't remember
it's name anymore but it is a popular one. Hey Dr. Speert -- if you are
reading this, feel free to chime in. :)
Anyway, the drops really only affect the eye and affects do not travel
to the rest of the body so if her bad reaction was to oral steroid, I
don't think it will be the same for the drop. But I am no doctor. She
needs to have a long chat with hers.
Sorry, I can't remember more -- brain fuzzies tonight. I need to get
some sleep.
