Question:
Our 7 yr. old shar-pei has developed cloudiness over both of his eyes
(cataracts? This has developed over the last year or so. Should/could they be
corrected? I asked the vet about it at our last visit but she was busy and I
didn't recieve an answer. Do the dogs eventually go blind if uncorrected?
Answer:
This sounds serious. I can't believe your vet ignored your question, I
recomment to change vets. It could be cataracts or infection, or ulcers. See
another vet right away.
Absolutely! Get another vet, Louis. If she's too busy to answer you, she's
just in it for the money and the number of patients she can see in a day.
Find someone else before you lose your best friend. And don't leave without
an answer. Cataracts can be treated.
One of my SPs developed cataracts when he was 12 years old, he was also
developing some other health problems. We decided not to do surgery
because of his health. He died last May at 131/2 yrs. He was almost
blind (he could see light, but not much else.) I agree with the other
posters that you should get a second oppion. Your dog is still young
enough to do something for him.
