Question:
I had cataract lens implant and corneal transplant a couple of years
ago.
The vision in that eye is some what blurred. I can not read with it and
at night lights appear as a slash of light. Tried contacts early on but
could not get them to stay in the center. Apparently some astigmatism.
Has anyone tried laser in this situation?
Answer:
Not a good candidate for refractive surgery; rigid contacts are best.
There's a "new" version of an old lens design that might work if all other
lens designs fail; it's a rigid scleral lens (very large).
I wonder if there have been any published studies on the outcomes of LASIK done on
eyes that have had cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, AND such irregular
corneal topography that an RGP contact lens will not even stay on center.
If there have been any, and any which show "good results", please point us to
them.
Sometimes the eye pressure can pop up over the first 24 hours
after cataract surgery. In general, there is not any permanent
damage (although patients with pre-existing glaucoma may be at
some risk for permanent damage)
