Question:
ICBW, but didn't all the paintings Monet do while he had cataracts
come out too red because his colour vision was affected?
Answer:
I have never understood this argument about Monet and his cataracts.
Whatever his eye condition, he would choose a paint colour which matched the
colour of his subject. These two colours would be the same whatever the
state of his vision, shirley. How he perceived them subjectively would not
affect the matching process, and the green of a water-lily leaf would still
be matched with the colour which looks right to us, even if they both looked
lilac to Monet.
