LASIK refractive surgery.....any good???

Question:
I have been hearing tons of radio ads from local opthalmologists about the new refractive laser called LASIK. Apparently, the technology for these lasers has been greatly refined so it can now correct severe near-sightedness to 20/20 vision. Amazing! I heard the procedure takes less than 20 mintues and you are back to normal in 2 days. I have had severe myopia (-8.00 in both eyes) all my life and suffered with contacts & thick glasses. I really want the LASIK procedure. Anyone have it done? How much does it cost? Any side effects?

Answer:
I know the feeling. My eyesight is almost as bad. Personally, I would wait awhile before I underwent the surgery. One of my friends underwent laser RK. (I don't know what LASIK represents.) The only side effects that he noted was the tendency of halo effects to develop during the night. I think the severity of it diminished with time. It is really tempting to undergo such surgery. If you do plan to do it, find out what the outcomes have been. If you choose to go ahead, find someone with substantial experience with it.
